If We Said This, We’d Just Be Bitter

Posted on Wednesday 28 March 2007

(alternate text)If you or I said this, we would be considered bitter, frustrated, bitchy aspiring authors. But thanks to this quote, for one brief moment in time, I am actually a Hugh Grant fan.

“When I’ve finished it, I’ll send it to an editor, anonymously, in order for it to be judged objectively,” Grant says about his in-progress novel. “Because we all know about editors don’t we? I could copy out the Yellow Pages and they would still publish it simply because I’m a celebrity.”

Most interesting of all, the article claims the book is “dark” and “disturbing.” I don’t know how it can be any more disturing than those movies Grant makes.

First of all, Hugh is a comic genius, kind of like Steve Martin, who also has a novel out. Second, at least he’s not writing a children’s book, which is the usual celeb cop-out. Third, the boy read lit at Oxford, no? Totally qualified to write a novel, I would think…
