The Melbourne Writers Festival runs from August 25 through September 3 in Australia. In association with the event, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image is presenting a special session entitled Focus on Robert Altman and Raymond Carver. While these events sound fantastic, I’m afraid my work schedule won’t allow me to hop on my private plane and cruise over to the land down under to participate.

But The Age provides a interesting review of films influenced by the short story master in Riffs from Carver Country. The piece contains film reviews of several famous, and not so famous, movies that feature Carver’s influence. It’s an insightful piece and a must-read for any Raymond Carver fan. I’ve already bolstered my Netflix queue based on some of the more obscure titles mentioned in the article.
