Harlan Coben Talks Financials

Bankrate has an interesting interview with best-seller Harlan Coben. Seems the thriller author is naturally frugal and is just now being able to enjoy the money he’s made.

“I had very lean years at the beginning,” Coben says. “My first Myron Bolitar book, I got an advance of $5,000 on. I was just happy to be published. Then it’s oh, can I get two books, oh can I get a career out of it, oh can I be a best-seller? Now the books are in 34 languages, they’ve hit No. 1 in 12 different countries. It’s really cool.”

This is a nice interview, but it’s largely fluff — not much substantive information on how writers make their living.
