And Gawker relates their observations of the film’s premiere this week. Most of their report focuses on events surrounding the actual debut of the film since they found the movie “terrible, so much so that we walked out before it ended. We left right after random pieces of coal started crying and the little boy seduced Marilyn Manson. Trust us, you don’t even want to understand what we’re talking about. Have you ever watched an Italian actress try to channel a West Virginia hooker? No? Lucky you.”

Meanwhile, it was reported in numerous outlets that Warren St. John, the New York Times reporter who covered first interviewed J.T. Leroy a year-and-a-half ago and then started on the expose trail, sold his story to the Weinstein Co. for a film to be directed by Jesse Peretz.

I was gonna try to come up with a sarcastic remark or funny riff on this, but I can’t do any better than fishbowlLA’s rendering of the meta-film situation:

You’ve heard about the movie based on the book about the cross-dressing teen prostitute from West Virginia?

Check.
But are you ready for the movie about the book and the movie about the cross-dressing teen prostitute from West Virginia and, of course, the lies they both told? 

How about if one of us goes to see the film, and we film ourselves sitting in the theater, then we go see the second film about the expose, and we film ourselves sitting in the theater, and then we film ourselves talking about both the films?
