No Plot? No Problem! by Chris Batty a handsome writing cheerleader who knows how to amuse and entertain people with his favorite use of the word "quirky" ,along with a writing style that is never boring. I have two of his books and I have enjoyed reading them all, while I cannot put them down. As a student writer, I can say his system really works because I have developed a relationship with my laptop.

For the posters who have written/are writing/want to write a novel and are wondering what to do with it...find a free writing critique group, either in-person or online. They'll help you polish your writing, and by critiquing others' works you will learn even more. For grammar problems, check out a grammar book - there are lots at your local bookstore. You don't need to hire an editor (and I say this as an editor!).

For invaluable info on agents and publishing, go to http://misssnark.blogspot.com , http://www.anotherealm.com/prededitors/ , and http://www.absolutewrite.com . Rule of thumb: Money flows to the writer. If you have to pay ANYTHING up-front beyond return postage, it's a scam.

Best of luck to all of you!

What a great idea. What a great interview. So packed with thingsI'd never thought of that I instantly felt inspired to join in! What really grabbed my attention at the outset was the reference to Busytown. I knew exactly waht you meant Chris. Hoping the project runs and runs and runs .......

Ok, Ok....I am going to set a time frame to begin and finish my project. I vow to stop starting, picking and putting away my stories, and I will burn those tunes that lend atmosphere to my otherwise over stimulated brain. I have been a penless writer all my life... nothing on paper. I am now a grandma. Today is a new day...here I go! What a kick in the pants.

I'm already writing a non fiction book, but I'm not sure what to do what to do when I'm done. Do I have to send it to an editor to check the spelling and grammar? I would like some suggestions please.

I am applying to grad schools to get my MFA degree and have about 3 months to get all my writing samples together. I haven't wriiten anything of consequence in almost 10 years and the prospect of now having to produce quality material in such a short period of time is daunting. This may be just what I need to get jump started. Any advice, Chris, on the best way to approach this task?

there's really nothing to writing a novel...anyone can do it obviously, if that doesn't work out, consider becoming a concert pianist...a few lessons and a couple of concerts should be enough to set you on your way!

My mother, 2 sisters, and I participated in Nanowrimo for the first time in 2005 and had a blast. We came up with a very quick idea and set about writing the same book from 4 different viewpoints. We've spent the last year combining the viewpoints into 1 book and are close to completing the project. We had planned to write the book, but I feel Nano gave us the boost to get started and to get 4 surprisingly coherent rough drafts to work from. I also want to add that I'm a computer programmer who didn't think she had it in her to write a book, but after a crazy month of plugging away, I did have a book that while certainly not publishable, was definitely not completely unreadable. And, there was certainly a surprising amount of pedal to the metal writing that was actually useable in the rewrite. Thanks to all of the Nano staff for their inspiration!
