(alternate text)

Anne Rice, the foremost chronicler of vampires and the children of the night, the lady who wrote softcore S&M books under a psuedonym, has been converted. Her new novel, Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt is scheduled for release November 1. The book is about Jesus at age 7, and it’s narrated by Christ himself. Acording to a recent Newsweek article, Anne Rice stated that “”I promised that from now on I would write only for the Lord.” The article mentions some not-s0-successful aspects of Rice’s new novel, but also points out the positive. “Yet in the novel’s best scene, a dream in which Jesus meets a bewitchingly handsome Satan—smiling, then weeping, then raging—Rice shows she still has her great gift: to imbue Gothic chills with moral complexity and heartfelt sorrow.”

Rice said that she is well aware of the chances she is taking with her coven of readers but she was “was ready to do violence to my career.” It will be interesting to see how they respond.
